"Giving Back has Never Been This Sweet"

Award- winning artist and advocate Cesar Montano with Habitat for Humanity Philippines Managing Director & CEO Charlie Ayco

Manila, Philippines – Last Sunday September 28 was a particularly sweet one with hundreds gathered to participate in “Candy Rush”, a fun run held by Cesar Montano for the second year ‘running’, to benefit Habitat for Humanity Philippines’ efforts in Bohol.

The fun run was part of a series of birthday fundraising events to help causes Montano holds dear to his heart. The first event was his “Golf Par-Tee” at the Valley Golf and Country Club last August. On both occasions, he donated part of the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity Philippines to help fund their rebuilding efforts in his home province of Bohol, which was ravaged by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in October 2013.

Habitat for Humanity Philippines has committed to rebuild more than 5,000 homes in 17 municipalities of Bohol, giving back decent homes to families still living in makeshift shelters.

For added value, the almost a thousand of participants were treated to a slew of entertainment and prizes – a zumba class with Kristie Bonifacio, fire juggling by the Atienza brothers, and a ventriloquist act with Ruther Urquia. Runners waited with bated breath as gift packs from sponsors were raffled off, including a much-coveted athlete’s watch that could measure health and body statistics.

The event also celebrated life’s many triumphs in something as simple as a 67-year old woman finishing the 21km distance, to another runner’s milestone of celebrating his golden wedding anniversary. Life truly is made sweeter when we help others get back on their feet, because life also rewards you with a sweet victory to call your own.

Through this event, Cesar Montano has helped Habitat for Humanity Philippines’ in its mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

This wasn't the first time Montano partnered with Habitat for Humanity in an event of this magnitude. In May 2014, the “Tagbo. Tukod. Tana!” build saw 5,000 youths answer the call to rebuild the nation. As Habitat for Humanity Philippines’ ambassador, Cesar generously donated his resources, networks and time to the annual event.
